Among the coolest things about being an AvGeek is finding weird routes or products to explore. It is among the longest domestic routes in America, between the East Coast and Hawaii (some of the shortest route lengths than many international routes outside USA).
The nonstop flights of United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Hawaiian Airlines (now part of Alaska Air Group) are all some more than 11 hours long – from the New York area to Honolulu. New York’s John F.F., 4,983-mile flights from . It is the longest domestic flight ever, with flights from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) at 4,962 miles long and Kennedy International airport (JFK), both Delta and Hawaiian – to be touched longer. Delta and Hawaiian flew an even longer flight between Boston and Honolulu, but both carriers discontinued those services last year with a final-year delay.
Am I a for Delta from JFK to Honolulu Daniel K? I recently had the opportunity to try Hawaiian’s service, but inouye International Airport (HNL) I was able to test it out.

Service on my flight (HA829) to Honolulu was one of the best I’ve ever had. A bit dated and rough around the edges of seats were at least by , but they were comfortable for the 11-hour journey.
Good news Hawaiian and Alaska just announced that Hawaiian’s fleet of 24 wide-body Airbus A330-200s is beginning a full cabin refresh in 2028, with the company offering redesigned its entire fleet to be fully equipped for an overhaul on those seats. New interiors will include a huge upgrade with new seats, carpets and lighting as well as ‘new inflight entertainment system of high definition’. A new suite will be installed on the front of the plane (which Hawaiian sells as first class in domestic flights but are similar to international business-class seats) and a new premium economy cabin.
But, back to the current product.
Check-in and boarding

Hawaiian Airlines plane parked at JFK’s Terminal 8. CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINTS GUY
JFK Airport 8 Terminal 8 is now the departure of Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines’ flights from Terminal 8. But that’s the American Airlines and Oneworld terminal, which makes sense since Alaska is a partner of OneWorld and Hawaiian; after being acquired by Hawaii’S parent company in 2024, That’ll soon become – as it has been known for its full-fledged alliance member.
The check-in counters in Alaska and Hawaiian are a bank of check into the same bank as their respective states. My first-class passenger was a “First Class and Atmos Status” lanes. I checked in and there was no line but it took a few minutes for Hawaiian Airlines agents to appear. a very young (I was very early). During their time, I took just a few minutes to get my boarding pass and walk along to the TSA PreCheck lanes.

Earlier, before my flight I was allowed to use The Greenwich Lounge. For those like me, who fly over 2,000 miles in a luxury cabin with lie-flat seats, this lovely lounge is shared by British Airways.

Terminal 8 wasn’t crowded, and it was early in the morning for to arrive. A 10-minute walk to Gate 47 was a 10-min drive, where friendly gate agents were waiting. A flower behind her ear was a nice Hawaiian touch with one Hawaiian Airlines gate agent.

A330s from Hawaiian Airlines are a 2-2-2 configuration with 18 first-class seats. There are no doors, but each pair is in a sort of self-contained pod (i.e. I was in the aisles of the first-class cabin, my seat is 3H.

It was adorned with tropical colors of light blues and rich browns, including the cabin’s parody. The first-class cabin had a wall with small starry lights at the back of its original- class cabin. The seats were 21 inches wide and about 76 inches pitch, with each seat having an average of over a dozen s.

In the side-by-side seats, it was a requirement that the passengers at these windows had to almost step over the aisles of their passengers to go to lavatories or move about the cabin. But a narrow gap between the ottoman in aisle seat and an aisle that allowed window seat passengers to avoid having their passenger (the sleeping) betrayed into the seats of aisle, .
There was a sliding privacy divider for travelers to use if they didn’t know their seatmate.

There was a large blanket and mattress pad waiting on the seat, with ‘the largest blanket in each seat’. It was a blanket from Hawaiian home decor company Noho Home, which is also the name of the item.

The tray table pulled out from the center console.

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINTS GUY
A screen holder was also visible from the center console, and you may have noticed in the photo above that there was an additional screen-holder. For the inflight entertainment, that was for preloaded movies, music, TV shows and games on iPad (which came with pre-loaded films, songs, television shows & games), that meant that that it was to be used.
Only 33 new releases were released alone, . Several short films from the Hawaiian International Film Festival were featured, so I was delighted to see them. The free Starlink Wi-Fi was a great success, and deserves special praise for its freedom of speech from s. I have never had better Wi-Fi, even over the ocean. Having downloaded at 402 Mbps, uploads around 56 bps was my favorite . Wow, ?

It was a real contrast to the mattress pad, as many international business-class seats don’t have one with their mattresspad. That is really what makes sleep quality better, I found that it’s a good thing to .

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINTS GUY
The seat was fully reclined and a small bench became part of the lie-flat bed, with ‘the little bench being used as an integral part in the sleepy position’. pictured below, as you can see in the photo of , there was some wear and tear on the seats.

Could you recline the seat by putting the wheel dial on the side of that seat to make it look like an ? A small part of the seat was raised to meet the ottoman ledge, and is used as a .

While there were a number of small cubbies in the seat for storage, many tray-style shelves had been designed to be used only for soft items such as blankets.

The economic layout is that if you can snag two window seats, then you will probably have a more comfortable ride.
Food and beverage

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINTS GUY
You won’t go hungry on Hawaiian Airlines’ longest flight.
Matthew, the flight attendant who was working my aisles, offered predeparture drinks. What was probably the best service I’ve ever been given on an American carrier, he said? They were working in business class, and Matthew, Bobby and Autumn had a very friendly service that was attentive without being too formal.
Prior to pushback, flight attendants offered a choice of mai tai, water, sparkling wine or POG (passion-orange-guava) juice before the liftback — all served in real glass.
After takeoff, hot towel service was offered. It was followed quickly by a beverage service with macadamia nuts.

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINTS GUY
My seatmate had a miniature bottle of prosecco from Mionetto.

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINTS GUY
The passengers would be either on a mushroom omelet or continental breakfast as the main course. Both dishes included fresh fruit and various pastries. My breakfast was the continental breakfast, filling if unmemorable.

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINTS GUY
The flight was accompanied by Snacks; Matthew kept checking on passengers, refilling drinks and making sure everyone was happy. Snacks in the galley included Maui Style potato chips and Hawaiian shortbread cookies.

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINTS GUY
Before landing, passengers were given a first course of Asian slaw with soy and citrus vinaigrette (and barbecue braised beef or an Asian vegetable curry) as well as ‘grilled chicken meat’. It was delicious, and I took the beef with it. This was all on one tray with a tiramisu crunch cake.

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINTS GUY
The food was generally good quality and filling, and multiple meal services made the long flight go by very quickly.
Service on Hawaiian Airlines A330

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINTS GUY
I thought the inflight service was phenomenal again,’ . Efforts seemed thrilled that employees were working this fun route for Hawaiian Hawaiian, from the gate agents to the flight attendants.
Booking Hawaiian Airlines’ longest flight

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINTS GUY
First-class tickets for this flight are not cheap, with fares as high as $3,100 one-way or 200,000 Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards points. Coach starts at $565 or 44,000 points, coach.
In the years, I have seen pricing for this trip a little less than it is in Hawaiian and Delta on the same route so I would suggest setting up Google Flights alert to see if you can find cheaper dates.
If you want a large number of Atmos Rewards points (the joint loyalty program for Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian airlines flyers) to sign up for the AmosTM rewards summit Visa Infinite® Credit Card, if you are looking for an atmos? With $4,000 on purchases in the first 90 days from account opening, it has a welcome bonus of 80,000 bonus points and 25,000-point Global Companion Award.
Bottom line

CLINT HENDERSON/THE POINTS GUY
It was the longest U.S in Hawaiian history, and its shortest one ever . s S Despite its now-dated domestic first-class cabin, it is a great way to fly to paradise. They’re going to be a beautiful A330s, with its domestic first-class seats and full makeover by Hawaiian eventually — but until then they’ll remain firmly lie-flat for the long flight to Hawaii. The seats are fine for sleeping, and the fun facilities and friendly flight attendants were more than a few scratched seats.
It is a memorable way to fly from the East Coast to Hawaii, with its distinctive Hawaiian branding and that warm aloha attitude.
