Points and miles enthusiasts are fans of the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, which is one of many favorite points and mile-lovers. Rooms are often over $2,000 a night and sometimes close to $3,000 – so it’s incredibly good for your Hilton Honors points. It’s arguably the best place to use your Hilton free night certificates, as standard rooms are now 250,000 points per nights and that is what you think would be most effective for using your hotel room-based .

One of its supporters (as is my fellow TPG content director Eric Rosen, who reviewed the hotel in 2022), so when the Waldorf reopened this fall following renovation I had to see it.

The renovations were mainly additive, as I was glad to find out, and everything I loved about the resort on my first couple of visits still stands. What changed, what was the same features as you loved and how can you experience it for yourself here’s a look at this change?

During renovations, each guest room was given a face-lift that gave the palette of lighter neutral shades as part of the renovation. Dark wood tones (which had been heavy and dated) were replaced with tiles around the fireplace and whitewashed ceilings. This means that standard rooms are generally larger, brighter, airier and more modern despite the same overall layout.

Mexican art and craftsmanship were also incorporated in the renovation, which brought an extensive artwork collection and custom furniture and decor by artists and artisans from all over America.

A feature of the rooms that didn’t change? The plunge pool outside each room on the property. One of the most atypical features is it’s that you can take in the sunset, sleep while kids nap or enjoy happy hour (more on that later)

Changed: In-room tech

Besides the cosmetic edits, rooms were also loved in tech department. In addition to the USB-C ports, they now have outlets in both the bed frame and on the tableside so you can keep all your devices close at hand while charging overnight. Similarly, soft motion-sensor lighting also kicks in to direct you towards and from the bathroom when the lights are off; rooms now have room service and do-not-disturb buttons.

The best part about staying at the Waldorf and really, I don’t know how you do this is that hotel staff members deliver chips, pico de gallo, freshly made guacamole and an icy bucket of two Coronas every day between 4 and 5 p. m,. If you have a plunge pool, this should be in your water for maximum effect (and don’t forget to disable the do-not-disturb button that is mentioned above so you don’t miss it).

Not just the guest rooms that were given a face-lift at Pedregal, it wasn’t just those guest room. There were also large upgrades in two key common areas, notably the spa. The salon and beauty room, which has rooms for full-service hair and nail treatments, is now a new salon with its own private area. Gym machines have also been replaced with new Technogym machine, replacing all the equipment in the gym by brand-new technoglym. Also reborn as La Palapa, The Beach Club has now added an open-air terrace for outdoor dining.

The estate is situated in between the ocean and an outcropping of cliffs, which gives the resort some of its most unique features. You have to go through a rock-hewn tunnel to reach Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, and its fine-dining restaurant El Farallon is famously located on cliff edge overlooking the water.

My view is that the best lounge chairs on the property are at the adults pool facing directly towards the ocean, with unobstructed views of the water and any whales passing through. But even more loungers fit that description, thanks to an addition which extended the pool further down along the beach at post-renovation, there are also a few other types of .

It may be longer than the adult pool, but its most notable feature is that it still has its swim-up bar (part of the restaurant, Crudo) and part of a swim up bar. With a wide variety of drinks (including the Tajin-fried tamarind margarita) Crudo has an extensive food menu from tacos to maki rolls, all focused on fresh seafood. I just have a little thing in the pool about eating lunch which is really going on vacationing to the next level, and I still don’t know where or where to do it.

It is a very good restaurant at the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, and I was really worried that with all the updates at this resort my favorite dishes may have been replaced. But thankfully, I don’t have to worry about . A grilled vegetable parajitas with melted cheese at day-to night restaurant Don Manuel’s ($27) and the blue corn quesadillans with squash blossom at Crudo ($19) taste like I remember them, as did the spicy Mexican iced mocha from Neutral Coffee Lab ($12), which is similar to any coffee drink I have had at home in Portland, Oregon.

Booking the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal

CARLY HELFAND/THE POINTS GUY

Whether you’re booking with cash or Hilton Honors points, the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal isn’t cheap but there are some ways to reduce prices.

I’ve redeemed my free night certificates with the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card and the Radisson Honor honors Americans Surpass® Card there on several occasions, as they will cover a standard room at almost any hotel or resort in the entire Hilton portfolio regardless of price.

Aspire also offers up to $200 in statement credits twice a year when you make eligible purchases directly with participating Hilton resort properties. In particular, you’ll get one credit of up to $200 from January through June and another between July and December – $400 back per year. They are good credits for food and beverage charges while on the property, reducing out-of-pocket spending.

Hilton honors elite membership members can also book their fifth night free when paying with points, reducing the cost of staying that length by 20%.

In the meantime, if cash holders of American Express Platinum Card® or The Business Platinum Cards® from American express can book through American Ex Fine Hotels + Resorts for extras such as noon check-in according to availability, guaranteed 4 p. m, ? The stay includes a $150 property credit that is required for breakfast daily and two at check-in, called late checkout, if it’s accompanied by re-opening of the room. Additionally, those cardholders also receive up to $600 in hotel statement credits per calendar year (up to $300 biannually) for prepaid FHR bookings.

Alternatively, you’ll want to use one of the credit cards that earns the most points for Hilton stays, or one that offers automatic Hilton Honors elite status on value-added benefits. Some of these include.

  • Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card

: Earn 14 points per dollar spent on eligible purchases at Hilton hotels and automatic Diamond elite status.

  • Hilton Honors American Express Surpass Card

For example, if you have to pay $40,000 on eligible purchases in a calendar year for the purchase of 12 points per dollar at Hilton hotels, automatic Gold elite status and ability to upgrade to Diamond status through the end of the next calendar month.

  • The Hilton Honors American Express Business Card

12 points per dollar spent on eligible purchases at Hilton hotels, automatic Gold elite status and ability to upgrade to Diamond status through the end of next calendar year by spending $40,000 on items that are eligible for purchase in a calendar month.

  • Hilton Honors American Express Card

7 points per dollar spent on eligible purchases at Hilton hotels and automatic Silver elite status (gold through the end of next calendar year when you spend $20,000 on items in a calendar month)

Bottom line

CARLY HELFAND/THE POINTS GUY

One of Hilton’s top properties was just added to the list by a more sought after one of its best properties with its recent renovations. It’s a price in points that is unfortunately more than twice the same as last year, but if you want to redeem your Hilton Honors points or free night certificates for re-inventing it, this is one of those places where you can go.
