In a city full of sleek, upscale points hotels, one Hilton Honors property is doing something a little differently.

Hilton Hotel The Curtis Denver A DoubleTree by Hilton Hotels – doesn’t take itself too seriously – other than its “Stay Happy” motto, and the signature themes that are on each of its 13 guest floors. Recently, this unique property was given a multimillion-dollar upgrade with brand-new themes and ‘complete makeover of every floor, guest room and suite (including the meeting and event spaces) as well as full make overstuff.

I got an exclusive first look at the redesigned Curtis Denver on a recent two-night stay with . Here is what I did over a weekend at what, in my opinion, was the most fun DoubleTree in the world.

First impressions

When you walk through the front door, you instantly feel that this isn’t your typical DoubleTree. Bright lights and colors, AstroTurf on the walls, retro neon signs in Retro-Nights & even an old-school camper van replica built around the front door.

Getting into lobby was like coming to an adult version of summer camp (including DoubleTree’s signature chocolate chip cookies)

The themes

Let’s start with the hotel’s claim to fame: its signature themed floors and rooms.

The “Stay Happy” mentality of the Curtis goes far beyond that slap-up lobby. Each floor has a bright landing with the elevator doors opening onto ‘the stage of that floors theme’ on which it is set. Upon entering the hall towards the rooms, you will see on-theme decorations around the walls of the room.

The themes were more based on pop culture, with titles such as horror, Britpop, chick flicks and science fiction before the renovation. It seems that the new themes are designed to appeal to a wider audience of people — including children. Fur Babies floor Animal-themed, Camp Curtis is summer camp and On the Blacktop will take you back to grade-school recess. But in some of the floors there is an older feel, such as Level Up (retro arcade games) and Let’s Get Quizzical (game shows) – but some floor levels are more grown up.

In standard rooms, guests can expect curated artwork and decor that reflect the floor’s theme.

At least one “Hyper Themed” suite is also available for every floor, which takes the theme to the next level with more thoughtful touches and interactive features. Examples include the Glam Squad suite on the fashion-themed You Better Werk floor and the Balancing Act suite (the circus-style What a Circus floor) Suite.

One employee I spoke to told the hotel that “the room has a very large number of couples and families,” which plays are often dictated by what plays play across street at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.

My main focus was seeing couples, adult friend groups and families with older children. There were several groups that climbed the elevators up and down to see what each floor was about, as everyone seemed to like the hotel’s funky spirit.” My name is . How can I get it? Because i was doing the same thing Paraphrasingr )

The rooms

It has 336 rooms and suites in the Curtis with a total of at least one Hyper Themed suite on each floor. I was in the Get a Clue Hyper Themed suite on the 13th floor of superstition-themed, supersuit suit where lived.

A classic mystery My suite evoked 70s jewel tones, retro-patterned carpet and vintage Clue decor, well-loved paperback mysteries, bloody fingerprint artwork and more. Don’t think I missed those old school popcorn ceilings, and don’T miss the .

As an Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes fangirl, I was obsessed.

Hyper Themed rooms also have interactive elements to encourage play and connection in addition to the hyperthemed room, which is also a place where s are invited to interact with each other. While each has at least one board game for each, there are more games available at the front desk for all guests to borrow from.

The School House suite on the On the Blacktop floor. RACHEL CRAFT/THE POINTS GUY

My Get a Clue suite was perfect for me, but Barbie fans would be pink over the Barbie Dreamhouse suite on the imagination-themed Up in the Clouds floor (pictured) and local sports fans will love Denver Broncos, Nuggets and Rockies touches on Go for Gold floor just to name dozens of other popular items.

RACHEL CRAFT/THE POINTS GUY

There were a couple of small touches as much as I loved my room and could have been more thought-provoking. One was the dark light (which presumably added to the cozy atmosphere but made it hard to read on the couch, work at the desk or play board games after sun went down) and worked at office. And while the mini billiards table was fun addition to the family, there was no place in the world where one could comfortably use it.

While some wrinkles are to be ironed out, such as a few design features and kinks with the hot water (like other rooms), I think the Hyper Themed rooms are worth the extra cost. & they’re still affordable to downtown Denver rates are $222, or 94,000 Hilton points per night.

Dining at The Curtis Denver

The Curtis is home to The Corner Office, a restaurant and martini bar attached to the hotel lobby.

The restaurant uses bright colors, retro furniture and a neon “it’s 5 o’clock somewhere” sign to reflect the playful spirit of The Curtis. Plus, the menus are designed to mimic file folders (with cheeky labels such as “HR violations” and office-themed offerings such As The Intern (a rotating seasonal beer), Buy Ins(apps) and Stacked Portfolios (“sandwiches”)).

RACHEL CRAFT/THE POINTS GUY

The Corner Office, meanwhile, is slightly older than the rest of the hotel and attracts a large crowd outside hotels guests, even though it’s still very much like that. A relaxed place to have breakfast, lunch or a weeknight drink but on Friday and Saturday nights it gets absolutely packed with the theater crowds. It’s thankfully easy to order takeout from one of the friendly hosts when you can’t get a table.

The menu is a modern interpretation of world comfort foods, with dishes such as burrata, gochujang-spiced crispy cauliflower, poke bowls and pimento macaroni and cheese. While the selection was not good for my vegan inclinations, I took a few of them and tried some things to get mixed results. My TCO burger was delicious with a black bean patty ($21), the hummus appetizer ($15) and the “office browns” ($6), which aren’t really hash brown but rather lovely little roasted fingerling potatoes. In contrast, the avocado toast ($18) and Best Practice martini ($16), were just so-so.

RACHEL CRAFT/THE POINTS GUY

In general, The Corner Office is a nice place to stay when you get the munchies at the hotel, or if you’re going to eat in dn Denver Center for the Performing Arts just be sure to call ahead.

There’s a lot of good basics at this property, plus some funny things that will help to make connection more alive amenities.

  • Grab-and-go market in the lobby.
  • Business center with two computers and a printer.
The dim lighting and tucked-away location near the hotel’s meeting rooms don’t seem particularly inviting, but this could be a boon for guests looking to exercise in peace and quiet.
Guests can bring up to two pets for $25 per pet, per night (100 Per-stay maximum) * Pet-friendly The guests are allowed to take up until the end of their stay.
  • FUN The hotel plays movies in the lobby, offering board games for guests to borrow from the front desk.
  • Connecting rooms.

There’s no spa, pool or hot tub, but this is reflected in the hotel’s attainable rates.

Location and logistics

The view of downtown Denver from my window. RACHEL CRAFT/THE POINTS GUY

It is located in downtown Denver, about two blocks from the main drag of 16th Street and across the street from theater shows and other events at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.

The Denver Center for the Performing Arts. RACHEL CRAFT/THE POINTS GUY

It takes about 45 minutes to drive from Denver International Airport (DEN); an Uber will cost you around $50, depending on the day of your morning. Putting your own car in the hotel’s on-site garage is $45 per night for parking it, according to .

A $10 RTD airport fare from DEN to Union Station would be better, then take the 16th Street FreeRide to Curtis Street and walk the other two blocks.

How to book The Curtis Denver

Rates start at about $140 in the offseason and $200 in summer for standard rooms, with 45,000 Hilton points per night. On the other hand, Hyper Themed suites cost $222 or 94,000 points per night. So, either way, that is a value below our March 2026 estimate of 0. The points for Hilton Honors are 5 cents per point.

While you’re not going to get outsize value from your points here, cash rates are pretty cheap. But if you’re going to peak dates or when a popular play is in town, cash rates may spike and it’s nice to have – even unless you can book with points — i.e. no cookie-cutter hotel?

If you have a chance to book through Hilton channels and earn points and elite night credits, your best bet is to go on the line. Reservations department 303-571-0300, if you want a particular themed floor or Hyper Themed room.

Accessibility

A curtis offers American guests with Disabilities Act-approved guest rooms (including queen, king and two–queen bed options) from the Curti. The hotel also has rooms with facilities such as roll-in showers and hearing impairment kits.

As always, TPG recommends contacting the hotel directly to ensure that it can meet your accessibility needs.

Bottom line

While it is a good budget option to visit the Mile High City with reasonable rates for its central downtown location, The Curtis Denver offers ‘the best and most affordable place in the world that you can afford while staying feels anything but cookie-cutter’.

It’s a theme for children and the young at heart The Curtis’ newly renovated themed floors have something to do with their newer themes. For a stay in one of the Hyper Themed suites, which is appropriate for your or your family’s interests, it may be fun solo retreat or an attractive gift for if you are close to someone who has been chosen as their favorite theme.

Yet if you’re thinking of an older, high-end resort hotel with more sophisticated restaurants and adult flair than the norm, you might want to see something like The Ritz–Carlton (Denna Marriott or World of Hyatt’s Thompson Denver)?
